As a Dallas engagement photographer, engagement sessions is so precious to me, and capturing Logan and Lauryn’s western engagement photos was no exception. This was my second time photographing them, and it’s easily one of my favorite sessions! This session was special because of the pure trust they have in me and my art. Multiple times I asked them, “Are y’all okay with doing this?” or “Are you comfortable doing this?” At one point I asked them to sit on the ground and Lauryn sat on some stickers and I felt so bad! But Lauryn at one point said, “Abby, I fully trust you and what you’re doing and I am down to do whatever you ask us to! I would happily roll around on the ground in a field of stickers (poky weeds that are not at all fun to get poked by) if you asked me to haha!”
This session reminded me how important it is to not only like your engagement photographer’s photos, but to trust and connect with them as a person. I believe their western engagement photos turned out so great, not only because they’re a smoke show of a couple LOL, but because they fully trusted me as an artist to make them look their best. When I feel that trust, it gives me soooo much more confidence to lean into the artistic side of photography. Plus, it takes away the pressure of worrying if they’ll be happy with their photos.
Something special about this western engagement session was that we got like four different lighting scenes captured all in the same session! We got overcast lighting in the very beginning, sunny golden hour lighting in the middle, blue hour lighting towards the end, and silhouette lighting at the very end. Experiences like this highlight how important it is to talk to your engagement photographer about what vibe you’re going for. I believe it’s crucial to trust their expertise when it comes to times of day to shoot and what to look for when booking your session.
“Okay 1. You are SO fast!!! Not me shedding a tear over these!!
2. Abby, It blows my mind how amazing you are & I hope you know that. If God has not made it clear enough – I hope you realize that this was seriously your calling. These ( and of course all of our ) pictures are SO GOOD & I will scream it until I die that you are SO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO!!! Truly. l used to hate taking pictures with my significant other because let’s be honest – they are not as picky as much as girls I feel like. I would worry about like my hair looking good, making sure I was not standing awkwardly because these are like lifetime pictures and memories… But it never fails that you somehow to make every picture look so good. Running and all. And whatever the vibe may be, you capture it so effortlessly.
Thank you SO much for being you & for being so amazing and capturing these. I LOVE THEM!!!!
And I cannot wait to put these in our home💛”
