Romantic Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden Proposal

With flowers in full bloom and the most beautiful spring weather, this Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden proposal could not have been more perfect. When Clayton popped the question, Kennedy was beyond excited and so eager to say “yes!” After the proposal, we strolled around the Arboretum, stopping for photos in different scenic spots—one of the many reasons this location is such a dream for proposals!

Photographing Clayton and Kennedy’s proposal holds a special place in my heart. They were both students of mine when I volunteered in student ministry at my church, back when they were both in high school. I got to witness the beginning of their relationship, so capturing the moment Clayton asked Kennedy to marry him was so incredibly meaningful.

Tips for Planning a Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden Proposal

Choosing the Best Time of Week

One of the best tips I can give is to propose during the week instead of the weekend if your schedule allows for it. Clayton proposed in the morning during the work week, which made the proposal even better. With fewer people walking around, the photos felt more intimate, relaxed, and romantic.

Choosing the Best Time of Day

Choosing the right time of day is also really important for gorgeous photos. We know the Texas heat is not ideal, so planning your proposal in the morning when the park opens or in the evening for sunset will give you the best lighting and will be the most comfortable.

Choosing the Right Photographer

When planning your Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden proposal, book a photographer who is experienced in capturing surprise proposals. I have lots of prompts up my sleeve to turn a regular photoshoot into a real surprise. Kennedy was truly so surprised when Clayton got down on one knee! It was the best! We can plan the perfect way for you to pop the question together.

You’ll also want a photographer who is familiar with the ins and outs of the Dallas Arboretum. Some locations (like the Crape Myrtle Allee where Clayton chose to propose) can be a little tricky for photos. When the sun shines through the trees, it can create uneven patches of light. Thankfully, the day of their proposal was soft and overcast, giving us beautiful light. That’s why I recommend working with someone who knows the area and can guide you to the best photo spots.

Why You Should Have Your Wedding at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden Too!

It’s always so romantic when couples have their wedding at the same location as their engagement. For a place to hold that much meaning in your relationship is so special! Although you’ll have lots of photos in one place, the Dallas Arboretum has never-ending photo opportunities where no photos look the same. They even have 18 ceremony options! If you’re dreaming up a gorgeous wedding at the Dallas Arboretum, I’d love to capture it and give you my expert tips.
