6 Wedding Planning Tips Every DFW Couple Should Know

If you’re planning a wedding, I’m sure you’ve realized how much goes into such a special day. It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed! That’s why I’m sharing my best wedding planning tips to help guide you through the process. We’ll go over what to prioritize first and how to make your day feel as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Let’s dive in!

1. One of the Most Important Wedding Planning Tips: Book Your Venue First

My #1 wedding planning tip is to book your venue first! Whether you’re getting married at a gorgeous venue, your family’s ranch, or even your own backyard, your venue and wedding date are the foundation for the rest of your planning.

Your vendors can’t confirm their availability until they know when and where your wedding is taking place. Once your venue is secured, the rest of the planning process becomes much easier.

Your wedding venue also plays a huge role in the overall feeling of your wedding photos. While photographers are incredibly talented at what they do, we can’t completely change the environment we’re photographing in. A modern white venue will tell a different story than a historic estate, family ranch, or garden venue.

As you’re touring venues, think about how you want your wedding day to feel when you look back on your photos years from now. The location you choose will become part of that story. If you’re still searching for a venue, check out my favorite summer wedding venues and winter wedding venues in DFW!

2. Hire a Wedding Planner (Trust Me!)

If there is one investment that consistently helps couples enjoy their wedding day more, it’s hiring a wedding planner.

While family and friends always want to help, planners are professionals for a reason. They know how to anticipate needs before they happen, adapt when something doesn’t go according to plan, and keep the day moving smoothly behind the scenes.

Most importantly, they know the last person who should be answering questions all day is the bride. Wedding planners spend years learning, adapting, and refining wedding days so yours can be as stress-free as possible!

Here are my top wedding planners I recommend in DFW:

Blissful Weddings & Events
Maxwell and Gray Events
Nothing But Love Weddings and Events

3. Love the Backup Plan Just as Much as the Original Plan

As a DFW wedding photographer, one thing I’ve learned is that the Texas weather loves to keep us guessing.

I’ve photographed weddings during unexpected cold fronts, heat waves, rainy fall weekends, and even snowstorms in February. No matter what season you’re getting married in, make sure you love your rain plan or backup ceremony location just as much as your original plan.

If the weather changes at the last minute, you’ll feel so much more at peace knowing your backup option is just as beautiful.

4. Designate a Point Person for Questions

One of the easiest ways to protect your peace on your wedding day is to designate someone to be the point person for questions.

Whether that’s your mom, maid of honor, sister, wedding planner, or another trusted person, make sure someone besides you knows the schedule, vendor details, and important information for the day.

One of my favorite wedding planning tips is to choose this person before the wedding day arrives, so everyone knows exactly who to go to with questions. The last thing you want is to spend your wedding day answering texts, solving problems, or making decisions that someone else could easily handle.

5. Book Your Photographer Early

If there’s a photographer you know you want to work with, don’t wait too long to reach out.

Ideally, reach out 12–18 months in advance if possible. Keep in mind that Saturdays are usually the first dates to fill up, and in North Texas, spring and fall wedding seasons tend to book more quickly. Even if your wedding is still a ways away, it’s better to reach out sooner rather than later. And if you think we may be a good fit, you can learn more about me here and my services here!

6. Hire a Great DJ

Out of all the wedding planning tips, this one is the most underrated!

Choosing a good DJ is a must if you want guests to enjoy the reception and actually get on the dance floor. DJs do more than just play music. They’re responsible for announcing your entrance into the reception, dismissing tables for dinner, keeping speeches and special dances moving, and helping create the energy for the rest of the evening.

A great DJ has a way of getting guests of all ages involved and keeping the dance floor full all night long.

Here are some great DJs I’ve worked with and recommend in DFW:

Jack Kristian DJ
LeForce Entertainment
DJ Adam Morgan
Premier Entertainment | Blake Arambula
