While the summer heat in Dallas may not be ideal, don’t let it stop you from documenting this special season with your love! Angelina and Spencer’s photoshoot was full of belly laughs, sweet smiles, and stolen kisses. Their love and chemistry really set the tone for their session, and I’d love to help you do the same! I’m sharing 5 tips for planning dreamy and playful summer engagement photos that will authentically capture your story.

Whether it’s somewhere indoors to escape the heat, or a dreamy location outdoors with lots of room for playful poses, choose a location that matches your personality and just feels right. For Angelina and Spencer, we chose an open field just south of Dallas. I’m in love with how the photos turned out here! They wanted somewhere perfect for documentary style photos. I got to photograph every candid moment, like lying in the grass, running around, and just being themselves!

Summer engagement photos would not be complete without fun props or accessories. Angelina and Spencer chose to keep it simple with cowboy hats and boots! This added that extra bit of personality, making all the difference in their photos. Western accessories in an open field during golden hour? So dreamy. No need to overcomplicate it. Keep it authentic and true to you! Some other fun props my couples have brought to sessions are Polaroid cameras, flowers, picnic blankets, and even a bike (you can see all the playful photos with a bike here!).

Sunset is hands down my favorite time to capture summer engagement photos, not only for less heat, but for the warm, soft romantic tones. The natural glow, flawless skin tones, and flattering light makes every moment look effortless. What’s not to love? And Angelina was absolutely radiant during their session. I’m convinced everyone looks even more beautiful during golden hour! The setting sun made everything perfectly glowy and unforgettable.

If natural, unposed photos are what you envision for your photoshoot, then choose a Dallas photographer who specializes in this type of imagery. I believe your engagement session should be more than just pretty pictures. I’m here to tell your story so you can cherish these moments for years to come! My best tip is to be yourself! Your love for one another is simply beautiful, so let that guide you. Angelina and Spencer’s playful personalities really shine through their photos, and I’m so glad they have these memories to look back on. Memories that are authentic, unposed, and so romantic. Think of your engagement photos like a fun date with the love of your life (I mean, it kind of is right?).
